Donations and Fundraising Events & Opportunities

Given the large amount of money needed to accomplish our goals in Haiti, fundraising is an important part of our work. We hope you will carefully examine the various opportunities for fundraising and donations and find a way to participate. HAITIAN FESTIVAL: Every year,  the Haiti Committee hosts this very popular fund raising event in May at the St. Mary's Pavilion. That festival is our biggest fund raising event of the year and loads of fun too. Diana Snouffer does a really wonderful job organizing this event which everyone loves.

BRIDES FOR HAITI: We collect donations of bridal gowns and turn them over to third parties for sale purposes to raise money to help Haiti.  Our Brides For Haiti Donations Director is Patti Bohr and can be reached at donate@st-josephs-haiti.com.   

MONTHLY COLLECTION:  Every 4th Sunday of the month, there is a basket in the back of St. Mary's church marked to benefit St. Joseph's.  Sometimes, this basket is accompanied by a fundraising event.

BAKE SALES: The fourth Sunday collection occasionally sees delicious cheesey  bread and Carribean Beach Bread  bake sales which offer considerable financial support throughout the year. Diana Snouffer with team support has now hosted many of these bake sales and both breads have proven to be both popular and delicious.

Jack Reid and his wife Karen have also hosted bake sales to help Haiti. Other parish groups have helped as well. St. Mary's Youth Group held a very successful bake sale on Sunday May 25, 2008 to benefit our twin parish. With this first fund raising effort, the youth group earned over $500.00 for our Twin Fund! MATCHING FUNDS: In February of 2010 an anonymous donor pledged up to $5,000 in matching funds to raise money for Haiti. Highly successful, even more than $5,000 in funds were collecting. Another successful matching funds offer occurred in  September 2009 when a very generous and anonymous donor pledged up to $10,000.00 in matching funds for donations received in that month! Our hat is off to these two anonymous donors for their incredible generosity toward our sister parish in Haiti!

GOLD JEWELRY SALES REFERRAL FEE:  Interested patrons can sell their gold jewelry and sterling silver service at a commercial gold dealer's store and help Haiti. In January 2011, patrons walked away with the full cash price of their goods and St. Mary's still received a selling commission from the gold dealer.  If you have gold jewelry or sterling silver to sell, please email us first and we may be able to arrange getting a commission from your buyer which will cost you nothing!

Christmas CD: In  December of 2010, people who made significant donations were given a CD of a Christmas song written and performed by a musician from St. Mary's own very talented choir.

Prom Gown Giveaway:  On March 10, 2012, we hosted a prom gown giveaway at St. Martin's Catholic Church on North Capitol Street in Washington DC.  Leftover gowns were sent to consignment to raise money for Haiti.
